The two days after vacation, and this week, we read the Journeys story "What do Illustrators Do?". This story had the students go through the fictional lives of two illustrators. The story took the students through the process of illustrating a story. The skills that went with the story were: graphic and text features, synonyms, vocab skills and spelling. We wrote a constructed response for the story and answered comprehension questions.
Last week, we wrote our 2020 resolutions. The kids typed different resolutions they wanted to work on throughout the year. We had them write them in paragraph form, then revised and edited, then typed them up. From that assignment, they chose one to write about in more detail. That one resolution was the main idea of a paragraph and they added details to support the main idea. Those were sent home this week.
This week, we began writing a five paragraph opinion piece. We are writing letters to the aliens we created with puffy paint. We are giving them our opinion on what dessert they should eat when they visit the earth for a day. Because they will eventually have to take their opinion and persuade someone, we taught them how to research facts to add to the letter.
