General Announcements
We did not start a Journeys story. We were in the middle of a writing piece, and we wanted to focus on some other reading skills with the students. We worked with how to infer what the author is trying to say. We also wanted to work on some closed reading strategies (what readers do during reading to better understand the text). Then we practiced writing a constructed response using the RACE rubric: restate the question, answer the question, cite using text evidence, and explain the evidence you chose.
Other stories we read:
We wrapped up our rounding numbers, addition and subtraction of three digit numbers. Next week, we will begin multiplication. The unit starts with arrays and figuring out even groups of a number. We practiced many ways to subtract, round and add numbers. Please keep practicing these skills since they need to know how to do each one fluently.
Social Studies
We talked a lot about the water cycle. When we talked, we began learning the land forms. We will begin to learn the land forms we find in the USA.
Science
Before getting to the next experiment, we needed to review a lot of vocab and the water cycle. We watched some videos and talked about the different forms water takes throughout the cycle. Next week, we will complete some water cycle activities and the next investigation. Please feel free to watch the videos in the Math/ Science google classroom to review the concept.
- Pink Out Day was a success!
- The Fall Fest should be lots of fun tonight. Thank you for the candy donations. Check out our class pumpkin. We created a Crankenstein. We also made a class canvas with the children's finger print.
- Am "Art of Yoga" notice went home today. If you want to sign your child up, and it does not make it home, please let us know and we will get another one home for you.
- Many have asked if we were having a Halloween party. You are welcome to send in treats. We will let the kids take them home. The teachers will provide a snack for school because of some allergies.
- Popcorn Day is this coming Tuesday. It is still not too late to pay for the year.
