General Announcements:
NO SCHOOL: Monday, October 14th
We started the vocab and spelling rules for a new Journeys story, "Destiny's Gift". Our spelling rules were "ay", "ai", "ea", and "ee". We were only able to listen to the story because of the short week. We will read it, and practice finding text evidence next week.
We completed our monster writing pieces. They are hanging in the hallway and will be sent home at the end of the month. The students created their own monster with materials given to them, made a list of character traits, likes and dislikes, and description words. Finally, they wrote a first and final copy paragraph about their monsters. Finally, we printed pictures out of the students creations, and had the students illustrate their monster. This was a long process, and the students demonstrated their best effort.
Other books we read:
We began subtracting three digit numbers, with and without regrouping. The parent letter from the math book went home along with a game you could play at home to practice. If you did not get either of them, and would like them, please feel free to reach out, and we'll get you a new one. They are teaching the students the traditional algorithm, and rewriting the numbers in expanded form. The google classroom has been updated with video explanations, songs and a Study Jam, you can look at with your child. The more they hear it, practice it, and see it, the more they will feel comfortable with it.
Social Studies
We are almost finished with our "Me on the Map" books. They have researched earth, North America, USA, Rhode Island, and Warwick. They wrote about Lippitt and finally, their home. Next, we will focus on the government in the US, RI and Warwick.
Science:
We set up for our next experiment that they will complete on Monday. We will be using thermometers to measure the temperature of different cups of water.
