General Announcements
We read "The Trial of Cardigan Jones". We reviewed the spelling and vocabulary words. The spelling words follow a "CVe" pattern. The "e" makes the vowel say its name. The vocabulary words focused around court, since the main character is in court because he was accused of stealing a pie. Our reading skills for the week are drawing conclusions and inferring and predicting. We will continue these skills, and responding to the reading next week.
Other Books we read:
Math
We started the next skill in the new iReady book, adding three digit numbers. The students learned how to add the traditional way, and by breaking up the numbers (ex: 351 +219 = 300+ 200+ 50 +10+ 1+ 9) There are videos explaining it in the google classroom if you want to check it out.
Social Studies
We began out first activity that follows the SS curriculum. It is a "Me on the Map" activity. This helps us review the planets, continents, oceans, and countries. We then continue to learn about our state, city and smallest community, school. We feel it's important to review this before moving on to the government. All of our resources for this assignment can be found in the SS/ELA google classroom. This week, we completed research on Earth, North America and the United States.
Science
Unfortunately, we did not get to our experiment. It is scheduled to be done on Tuesday. The new diagnostic test is eating up a lot of time. That, and we are still trying to set expectations in the classroom.
- NO SCHOOL: Monday, September 30th.
- This week in the google classrooms, we posted many new resources. These include: adding three digit number videos, and videos that are helping us research facts for our "Me on the Map" assignment.
- We are still completing the Reading diagnostic and the math diagnostic. There has been a problem with the site on and off throughout the week. We are very proud of their hard work and hope to finish next week.
- We sent home a permission slip to watch PG movies, and a homework policy notice, last week. Please return them as soon as possible.
- We are working on our whole class behavior in specials. Please help us by talking to your children about following the expectations, especially when they are not with us, or you.
- The class earns "fire flames" each time they get a compliment as a whole group, or they transition without any expectation reminders. Once we build a flame that reaches the corner of the wall, we have "You Earned It Time". Well, we built our first "flame" and had some snacks and a movie, "Chicken Little" , today.
