General Announcements
We didn't start a new story. We didn't want to rush through the skills while introducing the class routines. This week, we worked with writing responses to the text, while going into the text for evidence. With partners, the students planned their constructed responses, by restating the question, answering the question, and finding two quotes from the story as evidence to the answer. Once they were done, and I modeled one, they wrote a constructed response together. We used a rubric "RACE". This will be how the class is graded as we move forward.
We also started a class book that goes along with a book we read "Reach for the Sky- and other little lessons for a happier world" by Allison Stoutland. This will take us through the editing and revising process, and the importance of illustrations. It also serves as a preview to a Journeys story we will be reading soon, "What Do Illustrators Do?"
Books we read this week:
The new math program has the children starting to round numbers, but I needed to review place value to the hundred thousands place. Please continue the conversation to help us keep them using this skill. We would be so thankful! Next week, we build on this skill by adding three digit numbers. The class seemed to really enjoy listening to some songs on the Math/Science google classroom. Maybe they can share their favorite with you.
Science
We started our notes and background knowledge for the first investigation in this unit. Due to the testing required for the district, we did not have time for the experiment. We will do that next week. The class did get to watch a cute video from"Peep and the Big, Wide World: The Disappearing Drink" www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3OXjNIp6yY&disable_polymer=true
- Thank you for those who were able to attend Open House. It was great to see you. If you did not have the chance to visit, please feel free to let us know, and we will make a time to meet you.
- Please have your child show you how they log in to the google classroom. We have posted some songs and videos to help with learning place value.
- The book fair was a hit. We bought some new books for the class library. Thank you to the families who bought us some books.
- We are still completing our running records with the students, along with their sight word lists. We hope to be done with them by the end of next week.
- The students started iReady. We completed the Reading diagnostic, and will finish the math early next week.
- We sent home a permission slip to watch PG movies, and a homework policy notice. Please return them as soon as possible.
- We officially earned our first class incentive! We will be celebrating in some way on Friday!
