General Announcements
- We have our first full week of October next week!
- Trunk or Treat: Friday, October 25th from 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM. Notices wen home for payment ($15 for 4, plus $2 for additional child). If you did not get the notice, please let us know if you need another one. If you have goodies to donate, please send them in as soon as possible. That notice went home, too, last week.
- Picture Day: Tuesday, October 22nd. Envelopes went home last week. Please let us know if you need another one asap.
- We read "Destiny's Gift". We found character traits and the students picked three as to how they would describe the main character. With the three chosen, they were asked to find what they read to back up the trait they chose. When writing constructed responses, this is a vital part. We want them to become fluent in finding the evidence, in turn, making it easier to write a constructed response.
- We worked with our spelling and vocabulary words more in depth this week.
- We read "Crankenstein" by Samantha Berger. It is about a boy who has a bad day and we learn all the things that make him grumpy. At the end, he finds a friend, who also had a bad day, and they cheer each other up. We made ourselves into a Crankenstein and wrote what makes us grumpy and what helps us turn it around.
- We started a new chapter book for read aloud, "Gooseberry Park" by Cynthia Rylant

Math
We are following the new program from the district. We are spending longer on subtraction of three digit numbers because of the many ways being taught. These strategies will help with their overall number sense. With that said, we want the students to solve the problem the easiest way for them. We worked more on expanded form when subtracting, and adding on. Please watch some of their videos in the google classroom together and talk about them. The more they see it, hear it, and try it, the more confident they will become.
Science
The class completed their second science experiment. We explored the question "How does water move on a slope?". The vocabulary words we learned and practiced were: direction, gravity, dome, move, relationship, slope, and surface tension. After the class completed the investigation, they reviewed the experiment using the online tools that come with the Science materials. Please feel free to go on the Math and Science google classroom and have them show you the interactive piece.
Social Studies
Because of the short week, we did not get to too much Social Studies. The students put their finishing touches on their "Me on the Map" books. We also learned continued to use the green screen to put themselves on the earth.
