General Announcements
We started the skills for "The Harvest Birds". We worked with the spelling sounds: "kn", "tch" and "wr", and went over the vocabulary. We did not start reading the story because we needed to take the mid year iReady diagnostic. Reading and thhe comprehension of the story will be done next week
We started writing a five paragraph opinion piece, what is the best dessert. The students are writing a letter to an alien (which they created last week), and trying to convince them to eat their favorite dessert when they visit earth.
We also wrote Valentine's to an 104 year old Marine who wanted to collect as many as he could from around the world. He wants to add them to his scrapbook collection. We watched the clip that was on the news. I will be mailing them out next weekend. If you feel like adding your own to the batch, send it in and I will mail them with ours. We invited the whole school to participate. kfor.com/2020/01/11/this-104-year-old-marine-corps-veteran-is-asking-for-valentines-day-cards-ill-save-every-one/
Math
Our division unit is wrapping up\, but that does not mean we will stop trying to master the skill. We are currently testing the kids on their multiplication tables. We reviewing some each week. The class has been given many ways to practice. Any work you do at home to help master the facts would be great. Our next unit is area and perimeter. It builds on our multiplication and division knowledge. Please visit the classroom to use the resources we have up to help. We also posted some area resources too for next week.
SS and Science
Although we have not started any official magnet experiments,we are building our background information and vocabulary to help us through this next unit.
- We had some pretty awesome behavior in our itinerant classes this week. We are so proud of them!
- The iReady diagnostic window opened for both reading and math. The class completed the reading portion and we plan on finishing the math section next week.
- Field Trip: We sent home permission slips for the trip to URI to see the women's basketball game. We are going on January 29th. Please get the slips back as soon as possible. Ms. Julia needs to get the lunches organized and together. Thanks for understanding.
- Girls Night Out: January 24th. Have a wonderful time to those going.
- We started listening to read alouds on a site Ms. Melino introduced us to, Vooks www.vooks.com/. I will still share the titles of what we read, but I am unsure if it gives you access. We are still figuring out how to do it. We like it because it highlights the words as they are being read, which helps with fluency.
